I was talking to my sister about Makorra the other night and if it will be end game. I think it will, not because the characters are desperately in love right now, or because Mako’s hidden feelings will suddenly come out and make them the OTP, but because the show itself is shipping them. Korra…

YES! Finally, a post that summarizes my whole thoughts on Makorra. The show’s too focused on Makorra that other ships can’t even hope to be canon. Borra sorta got its share of the spotlight in episode 5 but as youkai-slayer said in my DA, it practically killed Borra because it ended with something almost close to acceptance that they’re just friends.The story-telling and the story just doesn’t add up, y’know. If Makorra isn’t endgame then why is all the focus on it? UNLESS it’s a huge character development device for Korra to let go.

Since I’m a multi-shipper leaning heavily on Tahnorra now, I’d have to say I wish it IS just a character development device. But since Kataang, as the OP pointed out, was the endgame in the first season, I wouldn’t be all too surprised if Makorra does become endgame.

I came to like how Mako and Korra interacted with one another and, before I knew it, I began to ship it. Their relationship has such great potential for development, and that actually drew me closer to it.

If they were to start dating right now in the series, I doubt that they would make it. But that’s only because they have a lot of growing up to do, and they aren’t ready to start a serious relationship with one another. (Not to mention Mako isn’t 100% sure of his feelings, since he’s with Asami).

Korra is headstrong, impatient, hot-headed, and impulsive. Mako is restricted, controlling, judgmental, and (sometimes unfairly) critical. Both are stubborn, and I don’t think these are characteristics you’ll see between two people who are in love (not that I’m saying they are in love; just in strong like).

These past few episodes, specifically episodes 5 and 7, you get to see how their imperfections serve as obstacles. Each episode, I believe, featured someone’s flaws more strongly than the other. In episode 5, Korra’s impulsiveness very nearly cost the Fire Ferrets a spot in the finals and wrecked the team’s dynamics as a whole. In episode 7, Mako’s criticism and judgement had briefly cost him his friendship with Korra.

The reason why I ship them so hard is because of their potential to grow together. Their relationship is a rather clumsy one. After this past episode, I began to ship them even harder than before because of Korra’s character development.

She’s willing to leave Mako to perform her birth-given duties as the Avatar and in addition to that, she was more than willing to let him go so he could comfort Asami. I believe that is quite an achievement for someone like Korra, and I can only hope that Mako will begin to develop later on in the series (preferably next episode).

~~Sometime during Mako’s quest for maturity, he should tell Asami about kissing Korra. Even if she did kiss him first, he said himself that he wasn’t sure about his feelings~~.

It’s not that Mako doesn’t deserve Korra or vice-versa, I just don’t think they’ve grown enough to fully appreciate each other.

I just love this analysis. It summarizes my entire love-hate relationship with Makorra. I have said a million times that I’m prepared to jump off SS Makorra if it Korra truly finds happiness with another guy but this post is the reason why I haven’t abandoned it yet despite everything that has happened.

Because even with Masami going super strong, Makorra is actually VERY-MUCH-ALIVE and developing. Mako and Korra are developing personality-wise in ways that can only help them appreciate each other more. And that’s what I said in my Artist’s Comments in DA. Makorra has the most potential to learn from and support each other by complimenting the other’s differences. Borra and Masami are kinda in the supportive rather than complimentary relationship and Tahnorra… is my official one true crack pairing.

SO. In conclusion the Philippines has nothing to do with American Idol.

Before you curse at me and wish dreadful things to happen to my life! - UNDERSTAND, that Jessica Sanchez is PARTLY Filipina, and that is only by basis of blood - for culture, language, values - we can’t say because WE DON’T KNOW HER PERSONALLY.

The Philippines (as a country and as a people) have nothing to do with her ACTUAL TALENT. She’s made it this far because of herself - not because millions of Filipinos choose to bask in someone else’s glory.

And identifying oneself to an popular icon because she shares your blood is understandable.

But this, this is ridiculous.

Do not think for one second that she owes anything to us.

Remember. She’s also part Mexican.

And she grew up in the United States.

That is her home.

It is disgusting just how far our kind of people would go - the Philippine population, and the Philippine media especially, have the nasty habit of tracing every Filipino blood from people who are famous, or who have made it. Only to claim a certain amount of ownership to their talent and accomplishment when it was their own hard work that got them.

Because the very claim that her talent comes from us is just as likely as claiming that a person’s disease comes from us as well.

If we attribute an individual’s characteristics to their home country then why must we be so discriminating about it?

NO. It is technically impossible for a Filipino/a (or any other citizen of any other country for that matter) to win AMERICAN IDOL.

Amen.

Though I do not see the relation of the two concluding paragraphs with the rest of the rant as it had been brought up that Jessica is not even Filipina, at least legally, unless she claims to be, which will still be imaginary and hardly rooted on anything.

If she does, I imagine the rest of the Filipino populace going crazy.

On the side note, Vanessa Hudgens is 1/8 Filipino. True story. Lol.
